Abundance Day Center & Services is seeking caring, dependable, and motivated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to join our growing team. We have opportunities available in our Adult Day Services (ADS) Program and Home-Based Services.

  • Adult Day Services (ADS) DSP – Group Setting
  • Adult Day Services (ADS) DSP – 1:1 Support
  • Home-Based DSP – 1:1 Support

Schedule:
  • Full-Time and Part-Time Positions Available
  • Monday–Friday (Hours Vary by Position)

Position Description:
A Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities in accordance with each individual's Individual Service Plan (ISP), person-centered goals, and the standards established by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD).
DSPs promote independence, community inclusion, personal choice, health, and safety while providing compassionate, respectful, and professional care.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of individuals at all times.
  • Provide direct supervision based on individual support needs.
  • Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including:
    • Personal hygiene
    • Dressing
    • Grooming
    • Toileting
    • Mobility assistance
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks while following dietary restrictions and nutritional guidelines.
  • Administer or assist with medications if appropriately trained and authorized.
  • Complete accurate daily documentation and service notes.
  • Follow each individual's Individual Service Plan (ISP) and Behavior Support Plan when applicable.
  • Assist with community outings, recreational activities, appointments, and transportation.
  • Encourage independence while providing the least restrictive level of assistance.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and DODD regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment.
  • Report incidents, injuries, or concerns immediately to management.
  • Communicate professionally with families, guardians, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Attend required trainings and staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Adult Day Services (ADS) DSP Responsibilities:
Group DSP:
  • Supervise and support multiple individuals in a structured day program.
  • Lead recreational, educational, and life-skills activities.
  • Encourage social interaction and community participation.
  • Assist individuals with personal care needs throughout the day.
  • Monitor behaviors and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Maintain required documentation and attendance records.

1:1 ADS DSP:
  • Provide individualized support to one participant during program hours.
  • Implement individualized goals outlined in the ISP.
  • Assist with behavioral supports and personal care.
  • Encourage participation in daily programming and activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services provided.

Home-Based DSP Responsibilities (1:1):
  • Provide individualized support in the individual's home and community.
  • Assist with personal care and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
  • Prepare meals and assist with household tasks.
  • Support medication reminders (when authorized).
  • Assist with shopping, appointments, and community integration.
  • Teach independent living skills.
  • Document services provided during each visit.
  • Ensure the individual's home environment remains safe and clean.
  • Support individuals in achieving their personal goals and maintaining independence.

Qualifications
Applicants must:
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Possess a valid driver's license (preferred for community-based positions).
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be dependable, compassionate, patient, and professional.
  • Be able to lift, transfer, and assist individuals as needed.
  • Successfully complete all required DODD training.

Preferred:
  • Previous DSP or caregiving experience.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.

DODD Rules & Regulations:
All DSPs are expected to comply with all applicable Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) requirements, including but not limited to:
  • Follow all DODD rules, policies, and provider standards.
  • Protect individual rights and dignity.
  • Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • Report Major Unusual Incidents (MUIs) and Unusual Incidents (UIs) according to DODD requirements.
  • Follow Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and person-centered planning.
  • Complete all required annual and ongoing DODD training.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and truthful documentation.
  • Follow all health, safety, infection control, medication administration, and emergency procedures.
  • Promote community inclusion, self-advocacy, and individual choice.
  • Maintain professional and ethical conduct at all times.
